Description

Although the First World War ended in 1918, Huntley & Palmers did not issue any new fancy tins until the 1920s. This tin in the shape of a tank may be seen as a reflection of the nationalism and focus on the military following the war. This tin contained iced gem biscuits which were some of the smallest biscuits Huntley & Palmers made. The design of the tank seems to be based on the Vickers medium tank, which was the standard British tank of the 1920s. Development of the Vickers medium series began in 1922 and the first deliveries to the British Army were made in 1924. Originally designated as the Mark I Light Tank, this vehicle was soon reclassified as a medium. It was the first British tank to have all round traverse and geared elevation for the gun. These tanks remained in service until 1939 and thererafter were used for training. The barrels of these tanks were, as is reflected in the tin, very short by modern standards. has turret missing
